Espressif Systems Announces the Volume Production of Integrated 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi SoC for Wireless Controller Chipset
Feb 3, 2014
Espressif Systems, a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets wireless systems-on-chip and radio frequency (RF) semiconductors for the Internet of Things, cellular, connectivity and broadcast applications, today announced volume production of its ESP6203 Wi-Fi chip. ESP6203 is optimized for Internet of Things Applications.
The chip’s WLAN contains features that enable it to operate in power saving modes, with advanced power control algorithm to enable battery-powered or power-critical applications. It is designed with advanced CMOS 40nm technology, resulting in the lowest power consumption.
The 802.11b/g/n MAC integrats a PHY, 2.4 GHz transceiver, power amplifier, antenna switch, balun and LNA into a single die SOC, resulting in minimal board space. ESP6203 also integrates a leading edge low power 32-bit microprocessor that enables the user to develop their own applications.
“ESP6203 is currently the industry’s most integrated Wi-Fi MCU chipset, in a 4mm x 4mm 24-pin QFN package, with only 7 external components, besides offering the most advanced power control algorithm, and software development kit for all wireless and game controller applications,” commented Teo Swee Ann, CEO of Espressif Systems. “The new era of Internet of Things has spurred the development of a great diversity of appliances requiring Wi-Fi connectivity. ESP6203 is Espressif Systems’ first step in our efforts to enter the large and rapidly growing market. The cost structure is similar to traditional 2.4 GHz controller chips.”
