Espressif Systems Announces the Volume Production of Integrated 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi SoC for Internet of Things Applications
Dec 30, 2013
Espressif Systems, a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets wireless systems-on-chip and radio frequency (RF) semiconductors for Internet of Things, cellular, connectivity and broadcast applications, today announced the volume production of its ESP8266 Wi-Fi chip. ESP8266 is optimized for Internet of Things applications.
The chip’s WLAN contains features that enable it to operate in power-saving modes, with advanced power control algorithm to enable battery-powered or power-critical applications. It is designed with advanced CMOS 40nm technology, resulting in the lowest power consumption.
The 802.11b/g/n MAC integrates a PHY, 2.4 GHz transceiver, power amplifier, antenna switch, balun and LNA into a single die SOC, resulting in the minimal board space. ESP8266 also integrates a cutting-edge low-power 32-bit microprocessor that enables users to develop their own applications.
ESP8266 is currently the industry’s most integrated Wi-Fi MCU chipset with only 7 external components, besides offering the most advanced power control algorithm, and software development kit for all kinds of Internet of Things applications.
ESP8266 is Espressif Systems’ latest effort to enter the large and rapidly growing low cost Internet of Things devices market in China. The Asia Pacific region is projected to account for more than half of the world’s IoT devices shipments by 2016, and Espressif Systems is well positioned with this and other products to capture significant market shares in this market.
